Biofuels

FPS.Energy develops sustainable and efficient fuel solutions for the requirements of mobility, industry and transport. Our range includes, among others, hydriertes Pflanzenöl (HVO), Flüssigerdgas (LNG) sowie komprimiertes Erdgas (CNG). These energy carriers allow companies to cover their energy needs reliably while improving their environmental footprint. A key advantage of biofuels is that they can reduce CO₂ emissions noticeably without costly changes to existing infrastructure or vehicle fleets.

Verflüssigtes Biomethan (Bio-LNG)

Liquefied by cooling

LNG is natural gas that is liquefied by cooling so that it can be stored and transported more easily.

Bis zu 80 % weniger THG (Bio-LNG)

Bio-LNG reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 % compared with fossil alternatives.

Bis zu 25 % weniger THG

Even conventional LNG saves up to 25 % of greenhouse gases compared with fossil alternatives.

Bessere Luftqualität

LNG improves air quality through a significant reduction in sulphur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

Wachsende Infrastruktur

The expansion of the fuelling infrastructure makes LNG a genuine fuel alternative.

E-Methan

E-methane is synthetic methane made from renewable electricity. It is the only one of the four fuels that needs no biomass – and is therefore not limited by the availability of feedstock.

From hydrogen and CO2

Hydrogen from renewable electricity reacts with CO2 to form methane – Sabatier methanation. No cultivation, no land, no residues needed.

Drop-in for any gas network

Chemically, e-methane is methane just like natural gas. Any existing CNG and LNG infrastructure uses it unchanged – no conversion, no second fuelling network.

Auf Quoten anrechenbar

If production meets the criteria of RED III, e-methane counts as an RFNBO and can be credited against quota obligations.

Can be stored and transported

Unlike hydrogen, e-methane uses the existing gas logistics: trailers, storage, network. That makes volumes plannable.

Still scarce today

Production capacity is small and costs are above Bio-LNG. It makes sense where proof of RFNBO status is required.

Verdichtetes Erdgas (CNG)

Kurzfristig verfügbar

Compressed natural gas (CNG) is available as a fuel at short notice and can be used without difficulty via the existing infrastructure.

Höhere Effizienz

CNG-powered vehicles often work more efficiently than comparable diesel or petrol vehicles and thus help reduce costs and emissions.

Organischer Ursprung (BioCNG)

BioCNG is obtained from organic residues rather than fossil sources, which can lower CO₂ emissions considerably.

Geringerer Wartungsaufwand

CNG vehicles generally require less maintenance than many other vehicles running on conventional fuels.

Niedrigere Betriebskosten

Further savings in operating costs come, among other things, from longer oil-change intervals.

Hydriertes Pflanzenöl (HVO)

Bis zu 90 % weniger CO₂

Up to 90 % lower CO₂ emissions than conventional fossil fuels – depending on the feedstock and the production process.

Schnellere Zielerreichung

A direct reduction of the CO₂ footprint – particularly suitable for companies that want to reach their sustainability targets faster.

Saubere Verbrennung

Very good cold-weather properties and a high cetane number ensure clean and efficient combustion.

Einfache Flottenintegration

Easy to integrate into existing fleets (e.g. trucks, buses or construction machinery) – usually without technical conversion.

Wirtschaftlich kombinierbar

An economical way to cut emissions for companies that are also pursuing strategies such as electrification or hydrogen solutions.

Welcher Kraftstoff passt zu Ihrer Flotte?

A direct comparison of the four alternatives at a glance.

Kraftstoff Einsatzbereich Tankinfrastruktur Umstellungsaufwand THG-Minderung
Bio-LNG Heavy goods transport and long distance Own LNG fuelling required, cooled to around −162 °C High without an LNG installation – none if an LNG fleet is already running Up to 80 % compared with diesel, depending on the feedstock
E-Methan Anywhere methane is used – CNG as well as LNG Existing CNG or LNG installations, unchanged None. Drop-in, chemically identical to natural gas High; qualifying as an RFNBO requires at least 70 %
CNG Urban traffic, short to medium distances CNG-Zapfsäulen erforderlich, Netz vorhanden Medium. Available at short notice, less maintenance in operation Low with fossil natural gas, considerably higher than BioCNG from residues
HVO Direct diesel replacement, no engine conversion needed Bestehende Diesel-Infrastruktur nutzbar Very low. Can also be blended with diesel Up to 90 % compared with fossil diesel

The reduction figures depend on the feedstock and on the certification. We will clarify which figure can be credited for your fleet in conversation.
